Civil War

Today, one of my post-graduate students was explaining about how there is a good deal of animosity between northern France and southern France. I told her it was similar in the US, expecting that she might have heard of the Civil War, the Red State/Blue State divide, or maybe even Yankee vs. Dixie cultural split. Instead, she said “Yeah, East Coast vs. West Coast Hip-Hop!’ Maybe you had to be there, but a white, blonde French girl rapping Biggie Smalls was really funny.
